Used For
Tavanic (Levofloxacin) is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, sinus infections, skin and soft-tissue infections, and other susceptible bacterial infections.
How It Works
Levofloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial enzymes required for DNA replication and repair. This prevents bacteria from multiplying and helps eliminate the infection.
Usage & Safety
Dosage:
Take Tavanic exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of the infection and the patient’s kidney function.
Side Effects:
Common side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, stomach discomfort, and sleep disturbances. Serious reactions such as tendon pain or swelling, severe allergic reactions, nerve problems, or significant nervous-system effects require prompt medical attention.
Drug Interactions:
Tavanic may interact with antacids containing aluminium or magnesium, iron or zinc supplements, certain heart-rhythm medicines, corticosteroids, and other medicines. Mineral supplements and antacids may need to be taken several hours apart from Levofloxacin.
Indications
Tavanic may be used for susceptible bacterial infections such as:
Respiratory tract infections
Community-acquired pneumonia
Acute bacterial sinusitis
Urinary tract infections
Kidney infections
Certain skin and soft-tissue infections
When Not to Use
Do not use Tavanic if you are allergic to Levofloxacin or other fluoroquinolone antibiotics. It is generally not recommended for children and growing adolescents unless specifically prescribed by a specialist.
Precautions
Use with caution in patients with kidney disease, seizure disorders, diabetes, heart-rhythm problems, or a history of tendon disorders. Avoid excessive exposure to strong sunlight or UV light during treatment.
Warnings
Fluoroquinolones can rarely cause serious and potentially long-lasting adverse effects involving tendons, muscles, joints, nerves, and the nervous system. Seek medical attention if tendon pain or swelling, numbness, tingling, severe muscle weakness, or significant neurological symptoms occur.
Pregnancy
Tavanic should generally be avoided during pregnancy unless specifically prescribed by a doctor after assessing the potential benefits and risks.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Follow the storage instructions stated on the product packaging.
