Used For
High blood pressure (Hypertension)
Angina pectoris (heart-related chest pain)
Certain abnormal heart rhythms (Arrhythmias)
Heart failure management
Reducing heart rate and workload on the heart
Betaloc ZOK is a prolonged/extended-release beta-blocker, designed to provide sustained metoprolol release over the day.
How It Works
Metoprolol primarily blocks beta-1 receptors in the heart. This slows the heart rate, reduces the force of contraction and lowers blood pressure, thereby reducing the workload and oxygen demand of the heart.
Usage & Safety
Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Because Betaloc ZOK is an extended-release formulation, the tablet should generally be swallowed whole and should not be crushed or chewed. Do not stop metoprolol suddenly, as abrupt withdrawal can cause serious cardiovascular problems.
Common side effects:
Tiredness or weakness
Dizziness
Slow heartbeat
Headache
Cold hands and feet
Nausea
When Not to Use
Use only under medical supervision, particularly if you have a very slow heart rate, certain heart-conduction problems, severe circulation problems, or specific types of heart failure.
Precautions
Inform your doctor if you have asthma/COPD, diabetes, low blood pressure, slow pulse, circulation problems, or other heart conditions. Metoprolol may also mask some symptoms of low blood sugar.
Warnings
Prescription medicine. The 100mg strength should not be started, increased, reduced, or discontinued without medical advice.
Pregnancy
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding before using Betaloc ZOK. Your doctor will decide whether metoprolol is appropriate.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
