Used For
Losec (Omeprazole) is used to treat conditions caused by excessive stomach acid, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), heartburn, gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, and other acid-related disorders. It may also be used as part of combination therapy for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with peptic ulcers.

How It Works
Omeprazole belongs to a group of medicines called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It works by blocking the proton pump in the stomach’s acid-producing cells, thereby reducing the amount of acid produced and helping relieve symptoms while allowing damaged tissues to heal.

Usage & Safety

Dosage:
Take Losec exactly as directed by your doctor. It is generally taken before meals, preferably at the same time each day. The dose and duration depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response.

Side Effects:
Common side effects may include headache, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and flatulence. Serious or persistent symptoms should be reported to a healthcare professional.

Drug Interactions:
Omeprazole may interact with medicines such as clopidogrel, warfarin, phenytoin, diazepam, certain HIV medicines, and other drugs affected by stomach-acid levels. Inform your doctor about all medicines and supplements you are taking.

When Not to Use

Warnings
