# **Izmepra Capsules (Esomeprazole)**
## **Common Uses**
Izmepra contains **Esomeprazole**, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces the production of stomach acid. It is used in the treatment and management of various acid-related gastrointestinal disorders, including:
* **Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD):** Relieves symptoms such as heartburn and acid reflux while promoting the healing of erosive esophagitis.
* **Gastric and Duodenal Ulcers:** Used for the treatment and prevention of ulcers, including those associated with *Helicobacter pylori* infection (in combination with appropriate antibiotics) and ulcers caused by prolonged NSAID use.
* **Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome:** Helps control excessive gastric acid secretion in patients with this rare condition.
—
## **How It Works**
Esomeprazole works by blocking the **proton pumps** in the stomach lining that produce acid. By reducing acid secretion, it allows ulcers to heal, relieves reflux symptoms, and helps prevent further damage to the esophagus and stomach.
