Betalol Ophthalmic Solution 0.5% 5ml (Timolol Maleate) – sante (private) limited

### How it Works

Timolol Eye Drops belong to a group of medicines called **beta-blockers**. They help reduce the pressure inside the eye and are used to treat conditions such as **glaucoma** and **ocular hypertension (high pressure in the eye)**, including glaucoma that may develop after cataract surgery.

### Usage and Safety

**Dosage**

* **Adults:** Initially, instill **1 drop of 0.25% solution** into the affected eye(s) **twice daily**. If required, the strength may be increased to **0.5% solution twice daily**.
* **Children:** Not recommended unless prescribed by a physician.

### Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

* Slow heart rate (bradycardia)
* Irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia)
* Atrioventricular (AV) block
* Palpitations
* Worsening of angina (chest pain)
* Congestive heart failure
* Swelling due to fluid retention (oedema)
* Poor circulation or cold hands and feet
* Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
* Dizziness
* Eye irritation, burning, stinging, itching, tearing, or redness
* Inflammation of the cornea or eyelids (keratitis, blepharitis)
* Eye pain or blurred vision
* Reduced corneal sensitivity
* Dry eyes
* Drooping eyelid (ptosis)
* Double vision (diplopia)
* Sensitivity to light (photophobia)

### Drug Interactions

Timolol Eye Drops may interact with:

* Adrenaline
* Digoxin
* Quinidine
* Fluoxetine and Paroxetine
* Calcium channel blockers (e.g., nifedipine, verapamil, diltiazem)
* Clonidine or Reserpine
* Other beta-blockers such as propranolol, atenolol, bisoprolol, metoprolol, carvedilol, nebivolol, labetalol, nadolol, pindolol, sotalol, acebutolol, celiprolol, and oxprenolol
* Rauwolfia alkaloids

### Indication

Used for the treatment of:

* Glaucoma
* Ocular hypertension (high pressure inside the eye)

### When Not to Use

Do not use Timolol Eye Drops if you:

* Are allergic to timolol, other beta-blockers (such as propranolol or betaxolol), or any of the ingredients.
* Have or have had asthma, severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or other serious breathing disorders.

### Precautions

Consult your doctor before using Timolol Eye Drops if you have a history of:

* Coronary heart disease
* Chest pain (angina)
* Heart failure
* Breathing difficulties or other cardiovascular conditions

### Warning

* Inform your doctor immediately if you experience an eye injury, undergo eye surgery, or develop an eye infection while using Timolol Eye Drops.
* Timolol Eye Drops may cause dizziness, tiredness, blurred vision, drooping eyelids, or double vision. Avoid driving or operating machinery if these effects occur.
* If you develop coughing, wheezing, difficulty breathing, or episodes of stopped breathing (apnoea), discontinue the medication immediately and contact your doctor as soon as possible. In some cases, a portable apnoea monitor may be recommended.

### Additional Information

**Pregnancy**
Always consult your physician before using this medicine during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

**Storage**
Store this medicine at room temperature, away from direct heat, moisture, and sunlight. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of the reach of children.
