Bisoprolol Fumarate
Used For

Hypertension

How It Works

Bisoprolol fumarate belongs to a group of medicines known as beta-blockers. It helps protect the heart from excessive activity by affecting the body’s response to certain nerve impulses, especially those affecting the heart. This medicine slows down the heart rate and allows the heart to pump blood more efficiently throughout the body.

Usage & Safety
Dosage

Hypertension & Angina:
Adults: The usual recommended dose is 10 mg once daily, with a maximum dose of 20 mg per day.
Children: Not recommended.

Always consult your doctor or pharmacist for proper dose adjustment.

Side Effects

Possible side effects may include tiredness, weakness (especially in patients with chronic heart failure), dizziness, headache, coldness or numbness in hands and feet, low blood pressure, stomach or intestinal problems such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation, sleep disturbances, depression, breathing difficulties in patients with asthma or chronic lung disease, muscle weakness, and muscle cramps.

Drug Interactions

Bisoprolol may interact with medicines such as amiodarone, amlodipine, clonidine, digitalis glycosides, diltiazem, disopyramide, felodipine, flecainide, lidocaine, methyldopa, moxonidine, phenytoin, propafenone, quinidine, rilmenidine, verapamil, imipramine, amitriptyline, moclobemide, phenothiazines, acetylsalicylic acid, diclofenac, indomethacin, ibuprofen, naproxen, adrenaline, dobutamine, noradrenaline, mefloquine, and ergotamine derivatives.

Indications

Bisoprolol is used for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension) and angina pectoris (chest pain caused by reduced blood supply to the heart).

When Not to Use

Do not use Bisoprolol if you:

Are allergic to Bisoprolol fumarate or any other ingredient of this medicine.

Have severe circulation problems in the limbs, such as Raynaud’s syndrome, which may cause fingers and toes to become pale, blue, or numb.
Precautions

Bisoprolol may affect blood sugar levels and can hide some signs of low blood sugar, such as a fast pulse rate. Consult your doctor if you experience these symptoms or notice changes in your blood or urine sugar test results.

Warnings

Bisoprolol may cause heart-related problems in some patients. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience chest pain, unusual tiredness, irregular heartbeat, breathing difficulties, swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs, sudden weight gain, or wheezing.

Inform your doctor or dentist that you are taking Bisoprolol before any medical or dental procedure, as you may need to stop this medicine temporarily before surgery.
