Used For

Cardura® (Doxazosin Mesylate) is a prescription medicine primarily used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men. It helps improve blood flow by relaxing the smooth muscles of blood vessels and the prostate.

How It Works

Doxazosin works by selectively blocking alpha-1 adrenergic receptors. This relaxes the muscles in the walls of blood vessels, allowing them to widen and reducing blood pressure. In men with BPH, it also relaxes the muscles around the prostate and bladder outlet, helping improve urine flow and reduce urinary symptoms.

Usage & Safety

Dosage:
Take Cardura exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The dose may be adjusted gradually depending on the condition being treated and the patient’s response. It can generally be taken with or without food.

Swelling of the ankles or feet
Indications

Cardura may be prescribed for:

Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
Difficulty starting urination
Weak or interrupted urine flow
Increased urinary frequency associated with BPH
When Not to Use

Do not use Cardura if you have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to doxazosin or any of its ingredients. Always inform your healthcare professional about your medical history before starting treatment.

Precautions

Use Cardura carefully if you have a history of low blood pressure, liver problems, or cardiovascular conditions. Dizziness can occur, particularly when treatment is first started or the dose is increased. Rise slowly from sitting or lying positions to reduce the risk of falling.

Warnings

Cardura may cause postural hypotension, especially after the first dose or following an increase in dosage. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how the medicine affects you. If you are scheduled for cataract surgery, inform your eye surgeon that you are taking or have previously taken doxazosin.

Pregnancy

Cardura is not generally indicated for use in women for hypertension during pregnancy. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their healthcare professional before using this medicine.

Storage

Store Cardura at room temperature, away from excessive heat and moisture. Keep the tablets in their original packaging and out of reach of children.
