Primary Uses
Indications
This drug is given for the treatment of schizophrenia.
Side Effects
This drug can causeinsomnia, restlessness, headache, dizziness, restlessness, drowsiness, tremor, blurred vision, GI upset, muscle weakness, stroke, TIA in elderly, diabetes, anxiety, sedation, increased secretion of saliva, and fatigue. It can also cause drop in blood pressure on change of posture, cardiac rhythm disorders, weight changes, increased creatine kinase, and discomfort in swallowing. In adolscents, this drug can cause weight loss, increased blood isulin, arrhythmia, decreased WBC’s and low serum prolactin.
Warnings
Pregnancy
This drug is contraindicated in pregnancy. Consult your physician for better advice.
Lactation
This drug is contraindicated or not recommended in lactation. Consult your physician for better advice.
Precautions
This drug should be given with caution in severe liver impairment, cardiovascular or cerebrovascular disease (with hisotry of QT prolongation or hypo- or hypertension). Monitor high risk patients for suicidal behavior. Risk is also there for venous thromboembolism. Reduce dose, or discontinue drug if involuntary movements of face and jaw occur. Use with caution in patients with history of seizures, diabetes, and elderly. Monitor for impulse control disorders including pathological gambling, hypersexuality, and compulsive spending or eating. Monitor weight gain in adolscents. Caution is also advised for aspiration pneumonia.
